We have received an amazing amount of response to our most recent family addition, the alien head.
We needed a way to display our new Monster Scarves, and looked at a few different ideas. In the interest of reusing what we already had laying around from other projects, we decided an alien head stand would be a great attention getting piece. Here's a quick idea of how we did it.
We used standard pink house insulation board from our Easter backdrop, and a foam head that had the base cut off.
(more on this later)
I made a base and shaped it to make neck using some kitchen knives and Gorilla Glue.
Yes, I cleaned them before using them for dinner. :)
After the square base dried I inserted small dowel rod pieces into the head and base to attach the head, the string helps hold the project tightly together while the glue dried.
After adding a base, made of the same foam board, for stability, Andrea took over to truly make this display come to life.
Andrea used wire to create the shape of the antenna instead of foam so any accidental collisions or falls would not break them off. She designed the face, neck and base out of fleece and then did her sewing machine magic to give our display a great personality.
Lesson of the day:
All you need is scrap parts, creativity and tacos for lunch to accomplish anything. I think even MacGyver will back me up on this one.
